# 2026 Calm Spas Owner's Manual Quick Guide

## This quick guide provides a condensed overview of the most important information from the 2026 Bullfrog Calm Spas/Calm Series Owner's Manual. It covers startup, controls, water care, maintenance, troubleshooting, and warranty information for Calm Series hot tubs.

### Overview

The Bullfrog Calm Series is designed to provide straightforward spa ownership, comfortable hydrotherapy, simple controls, and easy maintenance.

The 2026 Calm Series lineup includes:

- Calm7
- Calm7L
- Calm6

 Important Safety Information

For safe operation:

- Always supervise children around the spa.
- Keep the cover secured and locked when not in use.
- Never operate the spa without the filter and floating weir installed.
- Keep electrical appliances at least 5 feet from the spa.
- Water temperature should never exceed 104°F (40°C).
- Avoid alcohol or drugs before and during spa use.
- Test the GFCI before each use.
- Never dive or jump into the spa.
- Exercise caution when entering and exiting the spa.

Consult a physician before spa use if pregnant or if you have medical conditions affecting circulation, blood pressure, or heart health.

 Getting to Know Your Spa

Key Calm Series features may include:

- Main control panel
- Filter intake and access area
- Headrests
- Water feature
- Foot therapy jet
- LED lighting
- Entry step and cool-down seat
- Floor drain
- Ozone jet
- In-wall therapy jets
- Diverter valves
- Pump intake

The equipment compartment may contain:

- Jet pump 1
- Jet pump 2
- Heater
- Control system
- Ozone system
- Drain outlet
- Optional audio equipment

 Filling Your Spa

Before filling:

- Turn power off.
- Never power on an empty spa.
- Avoid filling with softened water unless an appropriate mineral supplement is added.

### Filling Procedure

1. Remove the floating weir.
2. Place a garden hose inside the filter cage chamber.
3. Fill the spa to the water level indicator line.
4. Reinstall the floating weir.
5. Inspect all plumbing and equipment for leaks.
6. Install and secure the spa cover.

### Cover Importance

The spa cover helps:

- Improve safety
- Maintain water temperature
- Reduce energy usage
- Protect water quality

Always keep the cover secured and locked when the spa is not in use.

 Startup and Pump Priming

After restoring power:

1. Allow the control system to complete initialization.
2. Enter Priming Mode.
3. Press Jets 1 twice to run Pump 1 on high speed.
4. Verify water is flowing from the jets.
5. If equipped, activate Pump 2 and verify flow.
6. Exit Priming Mode when all pumps are operating properly.

### Important Priming Information

Never allow a pump to run without water flow for more than two minutes.

If a pump fails to prime:

- Cycle the pump off and on.
- Repeat no more than five times.
- Contact your dealer if the issue persists.

 Calm Spa Controls

The Calm Series uses a simple control system that provides access to:

- Temperature adjustment
- Pump controls
- Lighting controls
- Filtration settings
- Heating modes
- Bluetooth controls (if equipped)
- Lock settings
- Time and date settings

### Temperature Ranges

The system offers two temperature ranges:

#### High Range

- Adjustable between 80°F and 104°F

#### Low Range

- Adjustable between 50°F and 99°F

Low Range is ideal for vacations and extended periods of non-use.

### Heating Modes

#### Ready Mode

Maintains water temperature continuously for immediate use.

#### Rest Mode

Only heats during programmed filtration cycles and provides maximum energy efficiency.

### Hold Mode (Standby)

Hold Mode temporarily stops pumps to allow maintenance activities such as filter cleaning and replacement.

 Filtration Cycles

Factory settings include:

### Filter Cycle 1

- Starts at 8:00 PM
- Runs for 1.5 hours

### Filter Cycle 2

- Starts at 8:00 AM
- Runs for 1.5 hours

These settings are generally sufficient for light to moderate usage. Users with higher usage may wish to increase filtration times.

 Control Panel Lock Functions

Two lock options are available:

### Temperature Lock

Prevents changes to the temperature setting.

### Panel Lock

Prevents changes to spa settings while allowing normal automatic functions to continue.

 Bluetooth Audio System (Optional)

If equipped, the Calm Series Bluetooth audio system allows wireless music streaming.

### Bluetooth Setup

1. Turn Bluetooth audio on through the spa control panel.
2. Enable Bluetooth on your mobile device.
3. Select **BBA Spa Music** from the available devices list.
4. Complete pairing.

For best performance, keep the device within approximately 20 feet of the spa and maintain a clear signal path.

 Diverter Valve Operation

Diverter valves allow users to direct water flow to preferred seating locations.

### Using the Diverter Valve

- Turn the valve toward the desired seat to increase pressure.
- Position the valve in the center to distribute water evenly.

This allows customization of hydrotherapy intensity.

 Water Care Basics

Proper water chemistry protects bathers, spa components, and water quality.

### Recommended Water Balance

For the FROG® @ease® system:

- pH: 7.2–7.6
- Total Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
- Calcium Hardness: 150–250 ppm
- Total Dissolved Solids: Less than 1500 ppm

### Traditional Water Care Targets

- pH: 7.4–7.6
- Total Alkalinity: 125–150 ppm
- Chlorine: 3–5 ppm
- Bromine: 3–6 ppm

### Water Care Best Practices

- Test water 2–3 times per week.
- Adjust alkalinity before adjusting pH.
- Shock the water weekly.
- Use stain and scale control products when needed.
- Use water clarifier if water becomes cloudy.

### Important Sanitizer Warning

Never use Trichlor chlorine tablets in a Bullfrog Spa.

Trichlor can damage spa surfaces and equipment and may void warranty coverage.

 FROG® @ease® Water Care System

The recommended sanitation system for U.S. models is FROG @ease.

### Benefits

- Cleaner water
- Clearer water
- Softer water feel
- Lower chlorine levels
- Simplified maintenance

### Cartridge Replacement

- SmartChlor® Cartridge: approximately every 3–4 weeks
- Mineral Cartridge: every 4 months or during water changes

### Monthly Maintenance

Shock the spa monthly using an approved non-chlorine shock product.

 Ozone Purification System (Optional)

Some Calm Series models may include the WellSpring™ High Output Ozone System.

Benefits may include:

- Reduced sanitizer demand
- Improved water clarity
- Cleaner water
- Reduced shock frequency

Consult your dealer regarding specific maintenance requirements.

 Filter Maintenance

The Calm Series uses cylindrical filter cartridges.

### Cleaning Schedule

- Every 3–6 weeks
- More frequently with heavy use

### Filter Cleaning Procedure

1. Turn off power or place the spa in Hold Mode.
2. Remove the floating weir.
3. Remove the filter cartridge.
4. Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose.
5. Use filter cleaner when necessary.
6. Reinstall the cartridge and floating weir.
7. Restore power.

Never operate the spa without a filter installed.

 Changing Spa Water

Depending on usage and water conditions, spa water should generally be replaced every 1–4 months.

### Drain Procedure

1. Turn off power.
2. Locate the drain below the equipment compartment.
3. Extend the drain.
4. Remove the drain cap.
5. Attach a garden hose.
6. Drain the spa completely.
7. Restore the drain assembly.
8. Refill and rebalance the water.

Always super sanitize newly filled water before use.

 Spa Surface and Cabinet Care

### Shell Care

Use:

- Mild dish soap
- Approved spa cleaners
- Soft cloths and sponges

Avoid:

- Acetone
- Gasoline
- Solvents
- Abrasive cleaners
- Household chemicals

### Cabinet Care

EternaWood™ cabinet components require minimal maintenance.

For routine cleaning:

- Use mild soap and water.
- Rinse thoroughly.

 Cover Care

To maximize cover life:

- Keep it secured and locked.
- Clean monthly.
- Remove heavy snow accumulations.
- Allow it to air dry after cleaning.
- Use approved fabric protectants when necessary.

Never stand, sit, or place heavy objects on the cover.

 Headrest Care

To maximize headrest life:

- Clean regularly using mild soap and water.
- Apply non-petroleum conditioning products monthly.
- Remove headrests during shock treatments.
- Leave the cover open for at least 30 minutes after adding chemicals.

Improper water chemistry can shorten headrest life.

 Extended Absence and Winter Care

### Two to Six Weeks

- Lower water temperature to 80°F (26°C).
- Continue maintaining water chemistry.
- Verify operation weekly.

### More Than Six Weeks

- Use Vacation or Low Temperature settings.
- Consider winterizing the spa if weekly monitoring is not possible.

### Winterization Overview

1. Super sanitize the water.
2. Drain the spa.
3. Vacuum the plumbing lines.
4. Remove pump drain plugs.
5. Loosen plumbing unions.
6. Clean the shell.
7. Clean and reinstall filters.
8. Secure the cover.
9. Remove remaining water from plumbing.
10. Add RV antifreeze if desired.

### Freeze Protection

The Calm Series includes automatic freeze protection that activates heating and circulation when freezing conditions are detected.

 Common Troubleshooting

### Spa Will Not Heat

Possible causes:

- Temperature set too low
- High-limit sensor activation
- Heater malfunction

### Weak Jet Pressure

Possible causes:

- Dirty filter
- Partially closed valves
- Air trapped in plumbing
- Blocked suction fittings

### Jets Surge On and Off

Possible causes:

- Low water level
- Dirty filters

### Repeated GFCI Trips

Possible causes:

- Defective breaker
- Wiring issue
- Failed spa component

### Pump Shuts Off Unexpectedly

Possible causes:

- Automatic timer cycle completed
- Restricted ventilation
- Pump overheating
