# 2025 X Series Owner's Manual Quick Guide
## This quick guide provides a condensed overview of the most important information from the 2025 Bullfrog X Series Owner's Manual. It covers spa setup, startup, controls, water care, maintenance, troubleshooting, and warranty coverage for X Series hot tubs.
### Overview
The Bullfrog X Series is designed to deliver comfortable hydrotherapy, straightforward operation, and easy maintenance. The 2025 X Series lineup includes:
- X5L
- X6L
- X6R
- X7
- X7L
- X8
- X8L
Depending on the model, your spa may include therapy jets, LED lighting, water features, ozone purification, audio options, and either a standard or touchscreen control system.
Important Safety Information
For safe spa operation:
- Never allow children to use the spa without proper supervision.
- Keep the cover secured and locked whenever the spa is not in use.
- Test the GFCI before use.
- Never operate the spa without filters installed.
- Do not use electrical appliances within 5 feet (1.5 meters) of the spa.
- Water temperature should never exceed 104°F (40°C).
- Avoid alcohol, drugs, or medications that may impair judgment while using the spa.
- Never dive or jump into the spa.
- Always exercise caution when entering or exiting the spa.
Getting to Know Your Spa
Key features may include:
- Main control panel
- Filter access compartment
- Headrests
- Water feature
- Foot therapy jets
- Leg therapy jets
- Interior LED lighting
- Cool-down seat
- Ozone jet
- Under-headrest lighting
- Diverter valves
The equipment compartment houses:

Filling Your Spa
Before filling:
- Turn power off.
- Never power on an empty spa.
- Open all jets and valves.
- Fill through the filter compartment to reduce the likelihood of airlocks.
### Filling Procedure
1. Remove the filter cover.
2. Remove the filter cap.
3. Insert a garden hose into the filter cage.
4. Fill to the water level indicator.
5. Reinstall the filter cap and filter cover.
6. Inspect for leaks.
7. Install and secure the cover.
### Water Recommendations
- Avoid filling with softened water unless appropriate mineral supplements are added.
- If source water is extremely hard, consult your dealer regarding water treatment options.
Startup and Pump Priming
After restoring power:
1. Allow the control system to initialize.
2. Turn on Pump 1.
3. Verify water is flowing through the jets.
4. If equipped, repeat the process for Pump 2.
5. Allow the system to determine and display water temperature.
### Important Priming Information
Pumps should never run without water flow for more than two minutes.
If a pump does not prime:
- Turn the pump off and back on.
- Repeat no more than five times.
- If water still does not flow, turn power off and contact your dealer.
X Series Controls
Depending on configuration, your spa may feature either a standard X500 control panel or an optional touchscreen control.

- Temperature adjustment
- Jet control

- Date and time settings
- Audio controls (if equipped)
- Lock and security settings
### Universal Unlock Code
If the keypad becomes locked, the universal unlock code is:

Water Care Modes
### Energy Saver (Factory Default)
- Reduces heating during daytime hours.
- Heats primarily during programmed filtration cycles.
- Best for maximum energy efficiency.
### Standard
- Maintains the selected water temperature continuously.
- Best for daily spa use.
### Super Clean
- Doubles filtration time.
- Increases operation of supplemental water care systems.
- Ideal during periods of heavy spa use.
### Weekender
- Reduces heating Monday through Friday.
- Maintains full temperature during weekends.
### Vacation
- Lowers the set temperature by approximately 20°F.
- Best for absences longer than two weeks.
Diverter Valve Operation
Diverter valves allow users to direct water flow to specific seating positions.
To use:
1. Turn the valve toward the desired seat to increase pressure.
2. Position the valve in the center to distribute water evenly.
This allows users to customize hydrotherapy intensity throughout the spa.
Note, it is a good practice to only turn the jet diverter valve while the pump is in low speed or completely off.
Water Care Basics
Proper water chemistry protects your spa equipment and helps maintain clean, healthy water.
### Recommended Water Balance
For FROG® @ease® systems:
- pH: 7.2–7.6
- Total Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
- Calcium Hardness: 150–250 ppm
- Total Dissolved Solids: Less than 1500 ppm
For traditional sanitation:
- pH: 7.4–7.6
- Chlorine: 3–5 ppm
- Bromine: 3–6 ppm
### Water Care Best Practices
- Test water at least 2–3 times per week.
- Maintain sanitizer levels consistently.
- Shock the spa weekly or as needed.
- Adjust pH before adjusting sanitizer levels.
- Use stain and scale prevention products when necessary.
- Use water clarifier if water becomes cloudy.
### Important Sanitizer Warning
Never use Trichlor chlorine tablets in a Bullfrog Spa.
Trichlor can damage spa surfaces and equipment and may void warranty coverage.
FROG® @ease® Water Care System
Most 2025 X Series spas are equipped with an @ease-ready holder system.

### Cartridge Replacement
- SmartChlor® Cartridge: approximately every 3–4 weeks
- Mineral Cartridge: every 4 months or whenever the spa is drained and refilled
### Monthly Maintenance
Shock the spa monthly using an approved non-chlorine shock product.
Ozone Purification System
Some X Series spas may be equipped with the optional WellSpring™ High Output Ozone System.
Benefits may include:
- Reduced sanitizer demand
- Improved water clarity
- Cleaner water
- Reduced shock frequency
Consult your dealer regarding ozone system maintenance and replacement schedules.
Filter Maintenance
X Series spas utilize pleated cylindrical filter cartridges.
### Cleaning Schedule
Clean filters every:
- 3–6 weeks under normal conditions
- More frequently with heavy use or poor water conditions
### Filter Cleaning Procedure
1. Turn off power.
2. Remove the filter cap and filter plate.
3. Remove the filter cartridges.
4. Rinse thoroughly using a garden hose.
5. Use filter cleaner when necessary.
6. Reinstall the filters.
7. Restore power.
Never operate the spa without filters installed.
Changing Spa Water
Depending on usage, spa water should typically be changed every 1–4 months.
### Drain Procedure
1. Turn off power.
2. Locate the drain below the equipment compartment.
3. Pull out the drain assembly.
4. Remove the drain cap.
5. Attach a garden hose.
6. Drain the spa completely.
7. Refill and rebalance the water.
Always sanitize and balance fresh water before use.
Spa Surface and Cabinet Care

### Cabinet Care
The EternaWood™ cabinet is designed for low maintenance.

- Use mild soap and water.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Avoid harsh cleaners.
Cover Care
The spa cover is critical for safety, energy efficiency, and water protection.
### Best Practices
- Keep the cover locked when not in use.
- Clean monthly.
- Remove excessive snow accumulation.
- Allow the cover to dry completely after cleaning.
- Apply approved fabric protectants when necessary.
Never stand, sit, or place heavy objects on the cover.
Headrest Care
To maximize headrest life:
- Clean regularly with mild soap and water.
- Apply approved conditioning products monthly.
- Remove headrests during shock treatments when possible.
- Leave the cover open for at least 30 minutes after adding chemicals.
Improper water chemistry can shorten pillow life and is not covered under warranty.
Low-Use and Extended Absence Care
### Two to Six Weeks
- Lower temperature to 80°F (26°C).
- Continue water maintenance.
- Verify operation weekly.
### More Than Six Weeks
- Activate Vacation mode.
- Consider winterization if the spa cannot be monitored.
Winterization Overview
1. Super sanitize the water.
2. Drain the spa.
3. Vacuum water from plumbing lines.
4. Remove pump drain plugs.
5. Loosen plumbing unions.
6. Clean the spa shell.
7. Clean and reinstall filters.
8. Secure the cover.
9. Remove remaining water from plumbing.
10. Add RV antifreeze if desired.
### Freeze Protection
The X Series includes automatic freeze protection that activates pumps and heating when freezing conditions are detected.

### Spa Will Not Heat

- High-limit sensor activation

### Weak or Inactive Jets

- Dirty filters

- Blocked suction fittings
### Jets Surge On and Off
Possible causes:
- Low water level
- Dirty filters
### Spa Pump Shuts Off Unexpectedly
Possible causes:
- Automatic timer cycle completed
- Equipment overheating
- Restricted ventilation
### Repeated GFCI Trips
Possible causes:
- Wiring issue
- Faulty GFCI
- Failed spa component
