# 2024 X Series Owner's Manual Quick Guide
## This quick guide provides a condensed overview of the most important information from the 2024 Bullfrog X Series Owner's Manual. It covers spa setup, startup, controls, water care, maintenance, troubleshooting, and warranty coverage for X Series hot tubs.
### Overview
The Bullfrog X Series is designed to provide reliable hydrotherapy, easy maintenance, and straightforward operation. Models in the 2024 X Series lineup include:
- X5L
- X6L
- X6R
- X7
- X7L
- X8
- X8L
Depending on the model, your spa may include premium seating, therapy jets, LED lighting, water features, ozone purification, audio systems, and touchscreen controls.
Important Safety Information
For safe operation:
- Always supervise children around the spa.
- Keep the cover secured and locked when not in use.
- Never operate the spa without filters installed.
- Do not use electrical devices within 5 feet of the spa.
- Water temperature should never exceed 104°F (40°C).
- Do not use the spa while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Consult a physician before spa use if pregnant or if you have certain medical conditions.
- Test the GFCI regularly according to the owner's manual instructions.
Getting to Know Your Spa
Depending on the model, your X Series spa may include:
- Therapy jets
- Water features
- LED lighting
- Adjustable air controls
- Diverter valves
- Premium seating
- Cool-down seat
- Optional audio system
- Optional touchscreen controls
The equipment compartment houses:
- Jet pumps
- Heater
- Control system
- Ozone equipment (if equipped)
- Drain assembly
- Plumbing and electrical components
Filling Your Spa
Before filling:
- Turn off power at the breaker.
- Open all jets and valves.
- Never power on an empty spa.
### Filling Procedure
1. Remove the filter cover.
2. Remove the filter cap.
3. Place a garden hose inside the filter chamber.
4. Fill to the water level indicator.
5. Reinstall the filter cap and filter cover.
6. Inspect the equipment compartment for leaks.
7. Install and secure the spa cover.
Proper filling helps reduce the chance of trapped air in the plumbing system.
Startup and Pump Priming
After restoring power:
1. Allow the control system to initialize.
2. Turn on Pump 1.
3. Verify water flow through the jets.
4. If equipped, repeat for Pump 2.
5. Verify the water temperature appears on the display.
### Important Priming Information
Never allow a pump to run without water flow for more than two minutes.
If water is not flowing:
- Cycle the pump off and back on.
- Verify proper water level.
- Check for airlocks after filling.
If the issue continues, contact your authorized Bullfrog Spas dealer.
X Series Controls
Depending on configuration, your spa may feature either a standard control panel or an optional touchscreen control.
Common functions include:
- Temperature adjustment
- Jet controls

- Water care settings

- Audio controls (if equipped)
- Lock settings
- Filtration settings
### Universal Unlock Code
If your spa is locked, the universal unlock code is:
**3732**
Water Care Modes
### Energy Saver (Factory Default)
- Reduces temperature during daytime economy periods.
- Heats primarily during scheduled filtration cycles.
### Standard
- Maintains the selected water temperature continuously.
### Super Clean
- Doubles filtration time.
- Increases supplemental water care operation.
### Weekender
- Reduces heating during weekdays.
- Maintains normal temperatures during weekends.
### Vacation
- Reduces the set temperature by approximately 20°F during extended periods of non-use.
Diverter Valve Operation
Diverter valves allow users to direct water flow to different seating areas.
To adjust:
- Turn toward a seat to increase pressure.
- Center the valve to distribute flow evenly.
This allows customization of hydrotherapy intensity throughout the spa.
Note, it is a good practice to only turn the jet diverter valve while the pump is in low speed or completely off.
Water Care Basics
Proper water chemistry protects spa equipment and helps maintain clean, clear water.
### Recommended Water Balance
For FROG® @ease® systems:
- pH: 7.2–7.6
- Total Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
- Calcium Hardness: 150–250 ppm
For traditional sanitation:
- Chlorine: 3–5 ppm
- Bromine: 3–6 ppm
- pH: 7.4–7.6
### Weekly Water Care
- Test water regularly.
- Maintain sanitizer levels.
- Adjust pH and alkalinity as needed.
- Shock the water weekly.
- Use stain and scale prevention products when necessary.
### Important Warning
Never use Trichlor chlorine tablets in a Bullfrog Spa. They can damage spa components and may void warranty coverage.
FROG® @ease® Water Care System
Many X Series spas are designed to use the FROG @ease system.
### Benefits
- Lower chlorine levels
- Cleaner water
- Simplified maintenance
- More consistent sanitation
### Cartridge Replacement
- SmartChlor® Cartridge: approximately every 3–4 weeks
- Mineral Cartridge: every 4 months or when the spa is drained and refilled
Monthly shock treatment is recommended to maintain water quality.
Ozone Purification
Some X Series spas include the WellSpring™ High Output Ozone System.
Benefits include:
- Reduced sanitizer demand
- Improved water clarity
- Cleaner water
Follow dealer recommendations for ozone system maintenance and replacement intervals.
Filter Maintenance
Clean filters every:
- 3–6 weeks under normal conditions
- More frequently with heavy use
### Filter Cleaning
1. Turn off power.
2. Remove the filter cap and filter plate.
3. Remove filter cartridges.
4. Rinse thoroughly with a high-pressure spray nozzle on your garden hose.
5. Deep clean periodically with filter cleaner.
6. Reinstall filters.
7. Restore power.
Never operate the spa without filters installed.
Changing Spa Water
Bullfrog recommends changing spa water every 1–4 months, depending on usage and water conditions.
### Draining Procedure
1. Turn off power.
2. Extend the drain assembly.
3. Remove the drain cap.
4. Attach a garden hose.
5. Drain the spa completely.
6. Refill using the recommended filling procedure.
7. Rebalance and sanitize the water before use.
Spa Surface and Cabinet Care
### Shell Care
Use:
- Mild soap
- Approved spa cleaners
- Soft cloths and sponges
Avoid:
- Acetone
- Gasoline
- Abrasive cleaners
- Harsh household chemicals
- Solvents
### Cabinet Care
The EternaWood™ cabinet requires minimal maintenance.
Clean using:
- Mild soap
- Water
- Soft cloths
Cover Care
To maximize cover life:
- Keep it secured whenever the spa is not in use.
- Clean monthly.
- Allow it to dry after cleaning.
- Remove excessive snow accumulation.
- Apply approved protectants when necessary.
Never stand, sit, or place heavy objects on the cover.
Headrest Care
To extend pillow and headrest life:
- Clean regularly using mild soap and water.
- Use non-petroleum-based conditioning products.
- Remove pillows during shock treatments when possible.
- Leave the cover open for at least 30 minutes after adding chemicals.
Improper water chemistry can significantly shorten headrest life.
Extended Absence and Winter Care
### Two to Six Weeks
- Lower water temperature to approximately 80°F (26°C).
- Continue basic water maintenance.
- Check the spa periodically.
### More Than Six Weeks
- Activate Vacation Mode.
- Consider winterizing the spa if it cannot be monitored.
### Winterization Overview
1. Drain the spa completely.
2. Open all valves.
3. Vacuum plumbing lines.
4. Remove pump drain plugs.
5. Clean filters and shell surfaces.
6. Secure the cover.
7. Add RV antifreeze if appropriate.
### Freeze Protection
The spa includes automatic freeze protection that activates pumps and heating when freezing conditions are detected.
Common Troubleshooting
### Spa Will Not Heat
Possible causes:
- Low temperature setting
- Flow restriction
- Heater issue
- High-limit sensor activation
### Weak Jet Pressure
Possible causes:
- Dirty filters
- Closed diverter valves
- Airlock
- Low water level
### Jets Surge On and Off
Possible causes:
- Dirty filters
- Low water level
### Repeated GFCI Trips
Possible causes:
- Wiring issue
- Failed breaker
- Faulty spa component
