# 2023 A Series Owner's Manual Quick Guide

## This quick guide summarizes the most important information from the 2023 Bullfrog A Series Owner's Manual. It covers spa setup, startup, controls, JetPak operation, water care, maintenance, troubleshooting, and warranty information for A Series models including the A5L, A6, A6L, A7, A7D, A7L, A8, A8L, and A9L.

### Overview

The Bullfrog A Series combines the patented JetPak® Therapy System, premium hydrotherapy, customizable jetting, advanced touchscreen controls, and efficient water care systems.  Getting to Know Your Spa

Depending on the model and trim package, your A Series spa may include:

- JetPak® Therapy System
- Auxiliary controls
- Premium touchscreen or standard controls
- Water feature
- Interior and exterior LED lighting
- Lighted cup holders
- EOS ozone purification system
- Premium audio system
- Simplicity™ filtration system
- Adjustable therapy jets

The equipment compartment houses:

- Jet pumps
- Heater
- Control system
- Ozone equipment
- Audio components (if equipped)
- Drain assembly
- Plumbing and circulation equipment

 Filling Your Spa

Before filling:

- Turn off electrical power.
- Open all JetPak valves and spa jets.
- Never operate the spa while empty.
- Avoid filling with softened water unless proper mineral supplements are added.

### Filling Procedure

1. Remove a JetPak from any seat.
2. Place a garden hose directly into the JetPak bulkhead.
3. Fill to the water level indicator or just above the midpoint of the filter intake grate.
4. Inspect equipment and plumbing for leaks.
5. Secure the cover before leaving the spa unattended.

 External Air Bleeder Procedure

The A Series includes an external air bleeder to help prevent airlocks after filling.

### Air Bleeder Steps

1. Remove the filter cover and filter.
2. Fill the spa to the proper level.
3. Remove the air bleeder screw.
4. Allow water to flow freely for approximately 60 seconds.
5. Reinstall the bleeder screw.
6. Restore power and verify all pumps prime properly.

If the control displays a NO FLO error after filling, repeat the air bleeding process.

 Starting Up Your Spa

After power is restored:

1. Allow the control system to initialize.
2. Turn on Pump 1 and verify water flow.
3. Prime additional pumps if equipped.
4. Allow the system to detect and display water temperature.

### Priming Warning

Never allow pumps to run without water flow for more than two minutes. Pump damage may occur.

 Spa Controls

A Series spas utilize either:

- Premium Touch Screen Control (A1000)
- Standard 8-Button Control (R800)

Both systems provide access to:

- Temperature settings
- Jet operation
- Lighting controls
- Water care settings
- Maintenance reminders
- Standby mode
- Lock settings
- Audio controls (if equipped)

 Water Care Modes

### Energy Saver (Factory Default)

Reduces heating during daytime hours and heats during scheduled filtration periods.

### Standard

Maintains set temperature continuously for maximum readiness.

### Super Clean

Increases filtration cycles and supplemental water care operation.

### Weekender

Reduces heating during weekdays while maintaining normal operation on weekends.

### Vacation (Away)

Reduces heating continuously during extended periods of non-use.

 Understanding the Status Light

The illuminated A Series logo on the equipment door serves as a status indicator.

### Solid Light

Normal operation.

### Slow Fading Flash

Maintenance reminder such as:

- Filter replacement
- Water change
- EOS filter maintenance
- Spa inspection
- Cover replacement recommendation

### Three Quick Flashes

A warning or system fault exists, such as:

- Low flow condition
- Temperature error
- Overheat condition
- Freeze protection event

 JetPak® Therapy System

One of the defining features of the A Series is the JetPak Therapy System.

### Interchanging JetPaks

1. Place the spa in Standby Mode.
2. Remove the desired JetPak.
3. Align the replacement JetPak.
4. Secure it until it locks into place.

### Adjustable JetPak Flow

Each JetPak includes a valve allowing users to adjust therapy intensity.

- Counterclockwise increases flow.
- Clockwise decreases flow.

### Additional Therapy Jets

Many A Series models also feature:

- Foot therapy jets
- Hip jets
- Calf jets
- Wrist jets

Most can be adjusted to customize massage intensity.

 Water Care Basics

Proper water chemistry protects both bathers and spa equipment.

### Recommended Water Balance

- pH: 7.2–7.8
- Total Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
- Calcium Hardness: 150–250 ppm
- Total Dissolved Solids: Less than 1500 ppm

### Standard Sanitizer Levels

- Chlorine: 3–5 ppm
- Bromine: 3–6 ppm

### Weekly Water Care

- Test water several times per week.
- Maintain sanitizer levels.
- Adjust pH and alkalinity as necessary.
- Shock the spa weekly.
- Add stain and scale protection when required.

### Never Use

Trichlor chlorine tablets should never be used in a Bullfrog Spa because they can damage spa components and void warranty coverage.

 FROG® @ease® Water Care System

A Series spas equipped with two filters are designed to use the FROG @ease system.

### Benefits

- Lower chlorine usage
- Cleaner water
- Consistent sanitation

### Cartridge Replacement

- SmartChlor® cartridge: approximately every 3–4 weeks
- Mineral cartridge: every 4 months

 Ozone Water Care Systems

Many A Series spas include the EOS ozone purification system.

Benefits may include:

- Reduced sanitizer demand
- Improved water clarity
- Less frequent shock treatments

### EOS Maintenance

Replace the EOS carbon filter approximately every 24 months.

 Filter Maintenance

A Series spas use the Simplicity™ flat filter system.

### Recommended Schedule

- Clean or replace every 4 weeks.

### Filter Replacement

1. Turn off power.
2. Remove the JetPak in front of the filter.
3. Remove the filter holder.
4. Replace the Simplicity filter.
5. Reinstall the holder and JetPak.
6. Restore power.

Never operate the spa without the filter installed.

 Changing Spa Water

Water should typically be changed:

- Every 1–4 months
- Whenever water chemistry becomes difficult to maintain

### Draining Procedure

1. Turn off power.
2. Locate the drain assembly.
3. Attach a garden hose.
4. Drain completely.
5. Refill and rebalance the water.

 Spa Surface and Cover Care

### Shell Care

Use:

- Mild dish soap
- Approved spa surface cleaners
- Soft cloths and sponges

Avoid:

- Acetone
- Gasoline
- Abrasive cleaners
- Household solvents

### Cover Care

- Keep cover secured when not in use.
- Clean monthly.
- Remove excess snow accumulation.
- Use approved fabric protectants when necessary.

 Headrest Care

To maximize headrest life:

- Clean regularly with mild soap and water.
- Use approved conditioning products.
- Remove pillows during shock treatments.

Headrest wear caused by normal chemical exposure is not covered by warranty.

 Low-Use and Winter Care

### Two to Six Weeks

- Lower temperature to 80°F (26°C).
- Continue water maintenance.
- Check spa operation weekly.

### More Than Six Weeks

- Use Away Mode.
- Consider winterizing the spa if monitoring is not possible.

### Winterization Overview

1. Drain the spa.
2. Open JetPak valves.
3. Vacuum plumbing lines.
4. Remove pump drain plugs.
5. Clean JetPaks and filters.
6. Secure the cover.
7. Use RV antifreeze if required.

 Common Troubleshooting

### Spa Will Not Heat

Possible causes:

- Temperature setting too low
- High-limit sensor activation
- Heater failure

### Weak Jets

Possible causes:

- Dirty filter
- Closed jet valves
- Airlock
- Blocked suction fitting

### Jets Surge On and Off

Possible causes:

- Low water level
- Dirty filter

### Repeated GFCI Tripping

Possible causes:

- Wiring issue
- Faulty component
- Defective breaker
