# 2022 Swim Series Owner's Manual Quick Guide
## Your Bullfrog Spas Swim Series swim spa combines aquatic fitness, hydrotherapy, and relaxation in a single system. Understanding the basics of startup, water care, maintenance, and troubleshooting will help ensure years of reliable performance and enjoyment.
### Filling and Starting Your Swim Spa
Before applying power, fill the swim spa through the opening behind any JetPak. This helps prevent airlocks within the plumbing system and allows water to reach the pumps more effectively.
Fill the swim spa to the water level indicator or approximately the midpoint of the filter intake grate. Once filled, inspect the equipment compartment for any signs of leaks before turning on power.
After restoring power:
1. Allow the control system to complete its startup sequence.
2. Prime each pump by activating it and verifying water flow through the associated jets.
3. Switch to Swim Mode and confirm that water is flowing from both swim current jets.
4. If a pump fails to prime, stop operation and follow the airlock troubleshooting procedures before continuing.
Using the Control System
The Swim Series control system allows you to:
- Switch between Spa Mode and Swim Mode
- Control jets and lighting
- Adjust water temperature
- Configure swim workouts and swim drills
- Manage filtration and water care schedules
- Set maintenance reminders
- Configure energy-saving settings
The touchscreen will automatically lock after periods of inactivity. Simply wake the screen and unlock it to access controls.
Swim Exercise Features
Swim Series spas include several built-in workout options designed to support different fitness goals.
Pre-programmed drills include:
- Endurance
- Lap
- Transition
- Cardio
- Power
You can also create and save personalized drills with custom intensity levels and workout durations. Additional settings allow customization of warm-up periods, cool-down periods, preparation time, interval timing, and light-based workout feedback.
Water Care Basics
Maintaining balanced water chemistry is critical for swimmer comfort, clean water, and long-term equipment protection.
Recommended water balance targets:
- Total Alkalinity: 125–150 ppm
- pH: 7.4–7.6
- Free Chlorine: 3–5 ppm
- Bromine: 3–6 ppm
Bullfrog recommends using granular chlorine (Dichlor) or granular bromine as primary sanitizers.
Never use trichlor chlorine tablets. Their low pH and high potency can damage swim spa surfaces and components and may void warranty coverage.
Always test the water regularly and adjust chemistry as needed.
Weekly Water Maintenance
To maintain healthy water:
- Test sanitizer and pH levels multiple times per week.
- Maintain chlorine or bromine within recommended ranges.
- Shock the water weekly or more frequently during periods of heavy usage.
- Use water clarifiers when necessary to improve water clarity.
- Add stain and scale control products as recommended for your local water conditions.
- Address foam promptly if it develops.
Water that appears cloudy, discolored, excessively foamy, or has a strong chemical odor should be treated before use.
Filtration System Maintenance
The Swim Series uses the Simplicity Filtration System to keep water clean and clear.
For best performance:
- Replace Simplicity filters approximately every four weeks or as needed.
- Inspect and clean filter intake baskets regularly.
- Remove debris from intake screens to maintain proper circulation.
- Never operate the swim spa without filters installed.
Clean filtration equipment helps improve water quality, heating efficiency, and overall system performance.
Changing the Water
Over time, contaminants accumulate that cannot be removed through normal filtration and water balancing.
Bullfrog recommends changing swim spa water approximately every six months, depending on usage and water conditions.
When changing water:
1. Turn off power to the swim spa.
2. Connect a garden hose to the drain assembly.
3. Completely drain the swim spa.
4. Clean interior surfaces and JetPak areas.
5. Refill using the recommended filling procedure.
6. Balance and sanitize the new water before use.
JetPak System Operation
The JetPak Therapy System allows users to adjust hydrotherapy experiences throughout the swim spa.
Water pressure can be adjusted using the JetPak control valve:
- Turn counterclockwise to increase flow.
- Turn clockwise to decrease flow.
Many therapy jets throughout the swim spa are also individually adjustable. If a jet does not rotate easily, avoid using tools or excessive force.
General Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps preserve appearance and reliability.
Recommended tasks include:
- Cleaning the shell with approved spa surface cleaners.
- Cleaning waterline buildup as needed.
- Conditioning headrests regularly.
- Cleaning cabinet surfaces with mild soap and water.
- Keeping the spa cover clean and secured.
- Vacuuming debris from the bottom as needed.
Avoid using household chemicals such as acetone, gasoline, harsh solvents, or abrasive cleaners on any swim spa surface.
Cover Care
The cover is an important safety and energy-efficiency component.
Best practices include:
- Keep the cover secured whenever the swim spa is not in use.
- Remove excessive snow accumulation promptly.
- Clean the cover monthly.
- Allow the cover to dry completely after cleaning.
- Use approved fabric protectants when necessary.
Never stand, sit, or place heavy objects on the cover.
Extended Absence and Winter Preparation
For periods of non-use:
### Two to Six Weeks
- Lower the temperature setting.
- Use an energy-saving water care mode.
- Continue monitoring water quality weekly.
### More Than Six Weeks
- Use Away Mode.
- Consider winterization if regular maintenance cannot be performed.
### Winterization
If the swim spa will be shut down during freezing temperatures:
- Drain the swim spa completely.
- Remove water from plumbing lines.
- Loosen unions and remove drain plugs as instructed.
- Remove or replace filters.
- Secure the cover and protect the spa from snow accumulation.
Proper winterization helps prevent freeze damage to plumbing and equipment.
Common Troubleshooting
### Swim Spa Will Not Heat
Possible causes include:
- Low temperature setting
- High-limit sensor activation
- Heating system malfunction
Verify temperature settings and review any displayed error messages.
### Weak Jet Pressure
Possible causes include:
- Closed jet valves
- Dirty filters
- Air trapped in plumbing
- Blocked suction fittings
Check each item before requesting service.
### Pumps Turn Off Unexpectedly
Possible causes include:
- Automatic timer expiration
- Overheating caused by blocked ventilation
- Pump failure
Ensure equipment vents remain unobstructed.
### GFCI Trips Repeatedly
Possible causes include:
- Electrical wiring issues
- Defective spa components
Have a qualified electrician inspect the electrical service and contact an authorized dealer if necessary.
